York

Today we went to York where we spent some time at the Minster. There was an impressive street artist working outside

Inside we explored the whole cathedral, including the undercroft and crypt, and we climbed the 275 steps to the top of the tower.

After the Minster we had lunch and then walked up the Shambles before going to the Jorvik Centre. After that we went to Clifton Tower where we climbed to the top.

After that we went for a ride on the Yorkshire Wheel and took a cursory glance at the railway museum which really deserves a better look than we gave it today...

After we had caught a train back to Leeds we went to a Thai restaurant called the "Chaophraya." The food there was delicious and the service was quick and efficient, the atmosphere was delightful, I thoroughly recommend this as a place to dine should you get the chance. An added bonus was that we got to sit next to a beautiful painting which really enchanted me.

So is the Minster a cathedral?

Gorgeous photos as usual, I love them. The place looks like a nice place to visit with some great history.

To me, the Thai painting exudes a wonderful peace and serenity. It's very soothing.

Apparently, all Minsters are cathedrals but not all cathedrals are minsters!
We had a lovely time in York and the weather is glorious just now!

What I loved about the painting was that you could see all the texture, how they had achieved it, so simple yet so elegant, I couldn't capture that in a photograph!

Another nostalgia trip for me - I spent my teenage years near York, except whenI was away at boarding school. In the holidays I got quite good at taking friends, and friends of friends, on guided tours, which of course included the minster, and the tower etc!! The Jorvik museum opened later, but I have been back and seen it!
I love the Thai picture.

I seem to have been specialising in old haunts of yours recently! Hope you've enjoyed the trip back in time!

The picture was also huge...taller than me - very impressive!

LOL!! You have quite a few of my 'old haunts' to visit yet!! And it's lovely to see the photographs. Colin and I do quite a bit of 'revisiting' like your Leeds trip - it's fascinating to watch places change in the course of a lifetime.
