Another weekend

It's Saturday morning and so far I'm the only one up, I really like being the only one awake, it's so peaceful and there are no interruptions, except for the postman who just rang the doorbell because he had some oversized mail!

Right at the moment "Won World", the event we are organising for 7th, 8th and 9th July is dominating my time and my thoughts, it seems to be taking huge amounts of mental energy just to keep things moving forward with it. Because the time frame for the whole thing has been very short, we have had to work very hard to let people know what is happening and why, and then to encourage them to participate in it, that's still ongoing. We also have a refreshments to organise on Friday evening, Saturday lunchtime, Sunday lunchtime and Sunay evening. It's not that I have to make or buy all the food, just that I have to make sure that everything is organised.

Quick rant I still get really frustrated thinking about catering here, and want to be able to go shopping back in NZ! I want to go and buy a couple of bags of 200 precooked sausages from the local butcher like I used to in SV but noone here does precooks, let alone big bags of them, and I still struggle with the different range of biscuits, cakes and chippies (noone here even knows what I mean when I say chippies and lollies, I have to call them crisps and sweets!) available here, in NZ I would have been able to walk into the supermarket and pick up exactly what I wanted, here I have to think carefully about what might be suitable alternatives for the items I had in mind!! And I want to be able to buy a couple of Cowell's pavlovas, big and white and fluffy, just waiting to be covered in cream and eaten, you have no idea how much I miss them! End of rant

In other news, Matthew is going out to see a movie with his friends for his birthday, later in the day. The boys seemed to have a really good time at the bearpit in Eastham country park last night with Pathies and above all I really must sort and put away loads of laundry today, then maybe I can reward myself by going out for a curry tonight?!

It's true that as soon as you go and live in another culture, you start to take on board new things and ideas, and if you stay there long enough you eventually find that you don't really belong in one place or the other. I don't see that as a particularly bad thing, just a reality. I think I'm richer for having lived in NZ and earlier Vanuatu, and am happy to be back in the UK.

I particularly lamented the absence of Jaffa Cakes while I was in NZ, yet now I'm back I only rarely buy them, and come to think of it, I felt very indifferent about precooked sausages when they were readily available to me, I guess it's just human nature to long for things we can't have!!

Pavlova, that's different though, I really would like to go out and buy one of those right now!!
