The Day of Parks

Today we again caught the 41 bus to the Arc de Triomphe. From there we walked up the magnificent Passeig de Lluis Companys up to the Parc de la Cuitadella, where we admired the modernista Museu de Zoologia and the massive fountain with its dragon guards...

Though I think quite frankly that the family were more impressed with the mammoth we met there:

Thus inspired, we headed to the zoo, (also part of the park) to see some real animals

Once we'd finished at the zoo, which took a while... we had a very generous, tasty and cheap lunch at a little cafe just around the corner, before heading up to Parc Guell, another Gaudi creation, which was just a photographic paradise for me, (I think everyone else quite enjoyed it too...)
Here's a "small" sample!!!

After that we returned to the hotel for a swim and then we went to a creperie for tea... very nice it was too!!

I love that thing with the lizard feet... I think it's supposed to be a gecko! - the whole of that park was really amazing!!

Gaudi meant it to be a gecko but the locals call it a dragon. That sounds like a lovely day! Marathon Man rushed me round the Parc de la Cuitadella and we missed the dragon fountain. If Gail finds out she probably won't ever forgive him.

Gaudi was right it looks more like a gecko... but I'm sure it would make a good "honoury dragon"!!

How could you miss the dragon fountain? ...it's huge!!! Anyway I have a number of pictures of the dragons if you're interested... though some of these demonstrate that pigeons are not at all afraid of dragons!!!

We saw the fountain in the distance but Colin left me trailing behind as usual and came back to say it wasn't worth the walk. I don't think he went all the way to it either, as he didn't take any pictures!

That's a shame... it was worth a look! And the park itself was very pleasant, worthy of a leisurely stroll!

We spent too much time around the museums and the winter gardens, and that was the day we had the three mile walk planned - which didn't start till about a mile beyond the arc de triunfo. This is the story of my life. And I would love some pics of the dragons, pigeons included or not!!
