Chester Part 1

On Thursday I went to Chester and spent the day with moth2fic. We explored the cathedral, looked at the shops in the rows, wandered in the park looking at the Roman Amphitheatre and squirrels, had lunch and drank lots of coffee. It was a a lovely day, but I scarcely stopped to draw breath since I returned home, to post anything here...

I am going to post some photos of the town and park here, the cathedral can have an entry if its own.

Tudor black and white half timbered buildings including the famous rows...

The city walls and an interesting building:

And finally the park and the excavated Roman amphitheatre:

Cathedral coming soon...

I showed Steve these pics and he was impressed! As am I, of course. I looove the Tudor buildings. We were wondering where Chester was so I Googled it, and found it in a straight line to Wirral and just up the M something or other to Stockport! Steve said, why is all that bit out to the left on the map so unpopulated? We stared for a moment then I said, "Because it's Wales?"

It really does look good. How do you tell something is a Roman ruin and not granddad's old retaining wall?

Yeah, Chester is a very pretty city and really close to home...should visit more often really!

How do you tell something is a Roman ruin and not granddad's old retaining wall? Don't really know, I'm not an archaeologist.... but I think it's about the depth at which they find things and the age of the stone and the other artifacts they find there.... Chester was a really important Roman fortress town (being on the border of Wales) so there are heaps of Roman remains there....

I didn't really think you were. But your answer is a good one. And I probably could have worked all that out for myself. It was a dumb moment. Sorry.

Not a dumb question and no need to apologise... hope you enjoy the cathedral pictures too!

Scrolling backwards, as usual, so I saw the cathedral first! I'm going to steal all your pics for the people on my f'list who want to see more of Chester than I gave them! The few people we have 'in common' will just have to look again or scroll down quickly. I quite like the pic of me leaning on a bollard - at last a pic that doesn't show my eyes reacting independently to light sources!!

I shall email my full file of unedited/uncropped pics to you and to Jenny to use/edit as you wish.

Colin is raving about your Barcelona pics. Thank you!

I'm happy to share all my "Chester" photos with you, would you like them?

I'm glad Colin is enjoying the Barcelona pics, I spent a very pleasant afternoon looking at all his pictures (and a good many of my Barcelona ones too), it was a thoroughly pleasant experience, do thank him for me!

Would love all the Chester pics. Some of mine didn't work well - I think the dial got twisted in my bag and I didn't check the settings but will send you everything.
