Isle of Man - day 1

Well we all made it safely to the Isle of Man, which is a bit wet and wild just at the moment. I can hear wind and waves roaring outside as I type this. Nonetheless we managed to get out and about and have a look round Douglas without getting too wet.

Here is the view from our hotel window:

We walked along the promenade to the sea terminal:

The sea was wild:

But the buildings and gardens were lovely:

We spent some time in town, shopping and having lunch, then returned to the hotel by horse drawn tram:

During the afternoon we watched The Mummy 3 at a cinema right next to our hotel, I enjoyed the movie more than Ian...

More tomorrow!

I saw the weather forecast for all this rain and it was right over the Isle of Man. I thought of you and it looks pretty yucky indeed. It sounds like you are making the most of it though. Hope tomorrow is better.

It does look like a nice little place. Thanks for sharing all the pics. I never 'went there' so to speak with anyone before now. The horse drawn cart is pretty cute. It's ...quaint!

Worst 'back to basics' technology I ever encountered was my first teaching section in the Bay of Islands, where they still had a manual telephone exchange! And that was 1983...

The whole place feels a bit like stepping back in time - very pleasant though!

I was watching the north west weather forecast, too. Colin thought the worst might miss you, but I was pretty sure you'd be hit! Still, not much different from the Wirral, really, and you got a horse-drawn tram to make it all worthwhile!! Your menfolk look suitably attired and ready to brave the elements.

It is lovely to be away together as a family despite the weather's best efforts!!

That's somewhere I want to go back to. I went there when I was 12 years old. I remember the horse drawn trams, we always uused to ask the conductor what the horse's name was. Shame about the weather you're getting. I hope it improves.
