Just a reflection on the importance of gifts. I've been looking round my house thinking how many people have given a bit of themselves to me, there's the picture Beverley painted for me, the wooden bowl that Bradley (a boy I used to work with) made for me, there's the cushion cover that Sandra made for me, the mat that Anna made for us and the other mat that was made for Ian by people he worked with, a silver toast rack given to us by an old lady called Isabella when she didn't need it any more and all Marjorie's embroideries and mats too. There are lots of other things too. Some of those people I will never see again, most are a long way away, but every time I see those objects, I remember the people so in a sense they will always be here.

I think it's indicative of how warm you are, that your house is filled with gifts from people. I think it's lovely. And there are so many memories in them too.

Most of what I value has strong associations with a person or a place, that's why I value it, but I guess that's true for most people.
